Going Back to Indonesia

Go back to Indonesia
Monday, February 4, 2019 

In February 4, 2019 we still in Benguet to prepare  the things that we have to bring to Indonesia, buy some souvenir, I still go to Strawberry market to buy some souvenir and some food that I can eat in bus, because the trip from Benguet to Manila is about 6 hours, we start our trip at 8 pm by school bus and arrived in Manila at 2 am, we arrived terminal 3 first to drop Nadia and Imam, because their flight is at 6 am so they have to reach airport early, then we are going to terminal 1 to drop vida, chey whose go back to Indonesia, pam and kim whose go back to Thailand. Then just me, fitri, and amin will wait the morning, we wait in our bus in terminal 1. In the morning we wanna go to embassy of Indonesia but our bus can't go there so we go there by taxi. After reach he embassy we try to ask permission to take a picture in front of the embassy to the security, and he try to communicate it first, and we have to wait, while waiting we decide to take a breakfast first. We breakfast at 7eleven enjoyed fried chicken and hot chocolate, after it we going to embassy again, and fortunately we allowed to go in and talking to head of education and culture, and give us her private driver to take us go around in Manila, it is so Happy 😁, 

Then we are going to some place, but I forget the name, before going around we go to airport first to take our mam and take our baggage. First place we are going to the park which biggest flag of Philippines that I ever seen, and some small flag. 


after this place we are going to the church, famous church in Manila, and much people come to this place,


after this we are going to the park that show carving of president of Philippines, from the first president until today 
then we are going to airport because my flight is at 4 pm so I have to reach there about 1 pm. in the way going to airport we pass Spanish village, that was so beautiful, then we are going to terminal 1 and wait for our own flight there. 





Last Day

Last Day 

In our last day to go around, we ask our buddies to accompany us, we are going to painting house, bell church, and SM mall. we reach there by jeepney and we have to pay 7 peso, then take some pictures in painting house, and we are going to bell church on foot, is it not to far so we can go there on foot from painting house. Bell church just like a place to pray for chines, showed by the building, the place was very good.

after bell church, my friends ask to go to SM, then we go there and ride jeepney 2 time, and we have to pay 17 peso. Then we go to SM, but we take a lunch first at McD in SM mall. Then we go up to fourth Floor, they wanna play some game, but I and my 3 friends don't wan it, so we decide to go around and finally going back to the dorm. Actually we wanna go to flower festival, but unfortunately the festival was finish at previous day, and open again in the end of following month. This is our tiredness day, but we happy because we will go back to our country and don't know when we will go back to Philippines

Send Off Program

Send Off Program ;)



Send Off Program is our last formal program in BSU, it's really hard to say but we have to go back to our country, this closing program, that means they will release us to go, some performance in this program are performance from sea teacher participant and from BSS student. In this program we show of ondel-ondel dance, piklos dances, traditional dance from Thai,  sing Indonesia Jaya song, Thai National Anthem, and Salamat song from Philippines. And our Philippines Friend also show of something for us, they sing a song. Then in this program we also give some souvenir from our university to BSU, and they give us souvenir too. 


We have to deliver a speech, about what have we gotten for a month, about our testimonial, and almost all of us crying, it's hard to go back, we still wanna stay in Philippines for a long time more, And The Dean say that, even we hold you here for a week more or a month or maybe years, but at the end you have to go, so we can't hold you and we  have to let you go. well this is very touching atmosphere. The sentence that I still remember is "The future is belongs to one whose believe in his dreams". That's all our activities in that program, and after that we take some snacks together.

Well, all of the people in the picture is Sea Teacher participant Batch 7 in BSU, after undergoing tired and long week, finally we go out to see the world. in second week at Saturday, January, 19 ,2019 we are going to Botanical Garden, Philippines Military Academy, The mansion, and another place. In botanical garden we can see forest in Philippines, and here we can rent traditional clothes from Philippines, it only 20 peso, here we are 



after going around botanical garden, then we are going to the next place is Philippines Military Academy(PMA) but in half way, we visit The Mansion first, The Mansion is a place for President if he come to Benguet, so he can stay there, but we can not enter because it is not allowed. 


well, after taking picture here, we are going to PMA, the view in PMA was very good, you can see beautiful mountains and also military building, nice to place to visit, and by the way, PMA is wide so you have to prepare your foot get tired. 

in PMA we can find a museum that show all of about military, weapons, uniform, and many more. PMA is our last place for visit, next we are going to take a lunch in Ahmad Brother Caffe, halal food, in this place we can find foods from Hindi and also Arabic.  
the Third week we go around again to museum and strawberry farm, but I don't take  pictures while going to this place, 😃

Purpose of Practicum 

the purpose of practicum divide into 2 type, first is for student and second is for student:

>at the end of the lesson, student should be able to:
   ^ have confidence in answering the questions
   ^ can collaboration and communication with friends well
   ^ differentiate between mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves 
   ^ mention the example of mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves
   ^ mention the wavelength and frequency of different type of electromagnetic waves

> purpose of practicum for teacher:

   ^ can manage the class better than before 
   ^ knowing  about student's needed in learning 
   ^ knowing the strategy how to teach something well
   ^ more confidence 

Procedure of Practicum 

in receiving program at secondary laboratory school, I meet my mentor with my friend (fitri) whose physics education also,  my mentor ask us to teach in different subject, chemistry and physics. At first time we don't agree, because chemistry is little bit difficult(that is why I choose physics education), but my mentor said that you can because we also learn chemistry in physics, and material that we will teach it is only basic, so we can read and learn it well. So I choose physics and Fitri choose chemistry, we teach for 1 week for our own subject, and we will exchange in following week. we teach chemistry or physics 4 times a week. The Class that we will teach is 7-2 for physics and 8-3 for chemistry. This are some point that we have to do:
        % we have to come to the school at 07.30 for flag ceremony 
        % we have to make a lesson plan before teaching practice 
        % make assessment and assignment for student 
        % submit our own lesson plan before 5 pm 


Outcomes of Practicum 

 The student able to explain kind of waves, example of waves, mention the frequency and wavelength, able to read the periodic table, understand about the isotope, mass of atom, atomic number and etc. 



The Challenges of Practicum 

The challenges that I face in this practicum are :

 first is methods if learning process, in Indonesia, most of teaching methods are teacher centered, so the teacher will speak much, but in BSU-SLS is student centered, how to make the student more active and enjoy their learning process, it is little bit different so I have to find another way to teach them. 

next challenges is language, in Philippines they have use English as second language, so it is not too difficult to learn English, so I have to prepare some word that I don't know yet, if they ask me something, and next challenges is different pronunciation, sometime they have to think hard what I mean, and so am I. 


Next challenges is when I exchange with my friend to teach chemistry, I have forgotten about chemistry material, so I have to remember it and ask to my friend to make it more clear and understandable. 



Overall Impression 

Overall I really impress with my teaching practicum, because  I can  improve my communication skills, confidence, and understanding about material. Some of their attitude that I impressed of is their always listen when I teach them, always respect wherever we meet, they have much skills, and I hope that students can improve their knowledge, and their skills to collaboration and communication skills. 


Suggestion for Future Improvement 


I have no suggestion for BSU-SLS because their facilities are complete, so they can use it in teach, for my dorm I  have no suggestion also because the dorm was very nice, we have refrigerator, tv, cooking utensils , full wi-fi, comfort room, private bathroom, everything is nice, and I miss it so much, I hope that I can come back to Philippines especially Benguet.

Procedure of Teaching 

In teaching practicum, I have to teach about physics material and chemistry material. In first week I teach physics subject and the following week is chemistry subject. In first week I teach Physics subject and I don't found a significant obstacle. I make a lesson plan and will be checked by my mentor and prepare the media that  I will use, first material in physics subject is about waves, so I have to make a media that represented about the waves, my mentor recommend me to use a metal slinky. moreover also prepare assessment and assignment that will be give to the student. Before make a lesson plan in Philippines format my mentor give me the lesson that I can use as the guide to write mind. After all of the properties complete, it is time to do action, I use demonstration methods to explain the waves is. Than after that I divide the class to be some group to discuss about the demonstration. 

In following days I teach still about waves but different type, it is about surface waves, electromagnetic waves and also mechanical waves. I found a little obstacle, I confuse about the meaning and how to explain about the surface waves.  So I use some video to explain about surface waves, electromagnetic waves and also mechanical waves. And make some group of the student to discuss about the example of those waves. 


In second week I teach about chemistry subject. And I found some obstacle, because some of the material is little bit difficult to understand and I have to ask to my friend whose chemistry major. After asking to my friend it is more clear than before, I teach about  periodic tables and I have to search periodic table and how to explain it. 

Because the assessment and assignment that I use is question about understanding of the material, so the rubric is only how many score will get in 1 question. 



Time Management and Organizing Activities 


Time management for learning process is 45 minutes for explain the material, 10 minute for assessment  section and 5 minutes. But it is not  always like it , it's based on the material that will be delivered. After explain the  some of material we have to makesure are student understand or not by asking or give some question to student. While writing the equation or material in board, don't turn our back to the student, and we have to go around the class to check the class ,  some suggestion from my mentor are:

1. use understandable language or word for communication to the student 
2. louder voice 
3. use different way to delivered the material that can be understand by student 
4. Give some assessment and assignment to the student


Problem Solving 

To solve the problem in learning practicum, the teacher have to go around in class to answer the question in discuss section or to check the student work or done the assessment or not. That's the problem solving to make the class more conducive. For problem in prepare section, I read some article or source that related to the material and try to ask to my mentor about the material. 


Classroom Management 

when entered the class, the teacher is not directly tell to the student about the  material, the teacher  have to delivered some case in daily life that related to the material so the student can imagine the material in real condition, in delivering the material, teacher have to use two-way communication to make the student stay focus in material, divide the class into some group and let them discuss about the material, while discussion section the teacher have to go around to check the student do their work and at the end of the class, teacher will give some assignment.

Observation On Teachers





1.1 Planning For Teaching 

In observation section I see that my mentor teach very enjoyable, he makes the student feel enjoy the learning while he delivered the material. I see that my mentor bring a module and some tools that will explain or represented about matter and space between the matter. And during the learning process, teacher will talk less and only asking about the meaning of an matter, what kind of the matter is and many more, but the teacher will only ask for stimulate the student more active and responsive in their learning. My mentor do the same thing in another class but need some additional strategy because the class that we entered after the first class in more active and always curious about something, they do not satisfied easily, so my mentor do another demonstrate to make them understand about the material. And when I teach them I try to make them active in my class, so I use a demonstrate use a slinky to describe about waves.  My Mentor say that the student have their own way to learning, some of them are visual type, audio type and we have to know and understand about this case, he make the class more easily and can be understand by the student. Sometimes he use Philippines language to explain something because not all of the student master English very well. And he also make the example of the material related to our daily life or make it more simple than before. For instance ask the student to be the part of the example that will be explained. All of the activities and goals in teaching practicum should be contained in lesson plan at objectives part. the teacher prepare the same material but different methods based on the condition of the student in separate class. Teacher also use module and worksheet to make the process more effective.  To ensure the student understand the material, teacher will give some assessment at the end of the class. 



1.2 Preparing Lesson and Materials 


Before enter the class for teaching I always prepare my teaching practicum, and it start when I am going to make my lesson plan, because to make a lesson plan you have to understand first about the material that you will teach. So before make a lesson plan I always prepare it as well as I can. Preparing process are like make an assessment based on the material, read, understand and review the material. lesson and material always done at least 1 day before teaching practicum such as the material that will be delivered, media that will be used, assessment and assignment if needed. Teacher also prepared about power point and everything needed in teaching practicum. 


1.3  Teaching in Class

when entered the class, teacher ask about previous material and call back about previous material, and start the learning process by explain the materials and stimulate student, then demonstrate the topics of the subject, divide the class into some groups to discuss about the demonstration, asking and question answer section and at the end give some assessment to the student to make sure they understand about the topics then answer the question about 10 minutes, and check together in the class.


1.4 Measurement and Evaluation 
Teacher will do some evaluation to make sure the student understand the material or not, in short time period, at the end of the class will held an assessment section. In same day or different day will held a quiz for evaluate the understanding of the student.

5.      Ask  the student to arrange the kind of waves from the longest wavelength to the shortest at electromagnetic waves.
6.      Ask the representative of the group to explain the discussion result and compare with another group.



Through the demonstrate the teacher will ask student to:
1.      Ask to the student to draw the  the wavelength of waves.
2.      Mention some application of mechanical and electromagnetic waves.


The teacher ask some volunteers ( 2 or 3 students) to make a conclusion  
based on the student’s conclusion, teacher will make a generalization.
